Harrell Center Activities

For each module students will be assigned a one hour block of time in the Harrell Center. You should treat this session as a "practice practical" and come prepared to perform your skills without much prompting. The procedure will be as follows:

  1. Students will work with a Physical Exam Teaching Associate (PETA) or faculty member in groups of two or three.
  2. One student will be the "patient," one the examiner and the third will provide a critique. The patient is also free to give feedback at any time.
  3. The PETA or faculty member will "check out" each student's performance and provide corrective feedback when all else fails. Students who do not "check out" will be asked to return at the end of the sessions.
  4. After approximately fifteen minutes the students will switch roles and the PETAs will change rooms.
  5. By the end of the session each student should have had the opportunity to perform and observe the complete exam at least once.
  6. Check out sheets will be collected and tallied as part of each student's overall grade. Students who are more than 10 minutes late will not be allowed to join the session. There is no mechanism to make up late or unexcused absences.
